The discussion surrounding the 2024 NBA Draft picks has been intense, but not following the typical patterns. Unlike previous years, this year’s draft didn’t feature the usual array of standout talents that fans are accustomed to. However, despite the lack of well-known names, the Atlanta Hawks decided to pick Zaccharie Risacher as the top selection. While some may question the capabilities of this year’s newcomers, Trae Young of the Hawks is not underestimating their potential just yet.
During a recent appearance on the “Podcast P with Paul George,” Young shared his views on the fresh draft class. He acknowledged the skepticism surrounding these rookies but also pointed out the potential for surprising performances.
Trae Young’s Perspective on the Likeness to the “Next Stephen Curry” Tag
Since his college days and all through his NBA journey, Trae Young has been frequently compared to Stephen Curry. On Paul George’s podcast, Young opened up about these associations and how he never entirely embraced the notion of becoming the “Next Stephen Curry.”
“The (pressure) mainly began during college. After a strong performance at the Phil Knight tournament followed by constant coverage on ESPN, all they kept reiterating was ‘The next Steph Curry.’ I didn’t pay much heed to it; I never thought, ‘Yes, I’m going to be the next Steph,’” Young shared.
Similar to Curry, Young delivered remarkable individual stats last season, boasting an average of 25.7 points, 10.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds.
