The Dallas Wings are still in search of their next head coach after parting ways with Latricia Trammell, but they have named their new general manager. On Friday, the Wings announced the hiring of former Los Angeles Sparks head coach Curt Miller as their executive vice president of basketball operations and general manager.

Miller brings a wealth of experience in both coaching and management. His most recent role was with the Sparks in Los Angeles, where the team ended the 2024 season with the league’s worst record, prompting them to seek a new head coach.

The new role is one that Miller embraces as he begins this exciting chapter with the Wings.

“I am excited to join the Dallas Wings as the new executive vice president and general manager,” Miller expressed in a statement. “I’d like to thank Greg Bibb, Bill Cameron, and the rest of the partners for this incredible opportunity. The potential of the Dallas Wings is immeasurable. With a new arena and practice facility on the horizon, a talented roster that makes an impact both on the court and in the community, an exciting draft positioning, a passionate and devoted fanbase, a fully invested ownership group, and a committed front office staff, now is the time for the Wings.”

“As a veteran head coach and GM in the WNBA, I’m looking forward to bringing my experience, passion, and leadership to Texas while we strive to hang a WNBA Championship Banner in Dallas.”

    Wings’ Offseason Perspective

The Wings find themselves in a state of uncertainty. After facing injury challenges in 2024, the team also did not meet performance expectations. Additionally, the future of Satou Sabally with the Wings remains unclear.

On the positive side, Dallas is positioning itself to build around Arike Ogunbowale, who is considered one of the premier players in the WNBA and aims to guide the Wings back to playoff contention in the near future.

The Wings are also gearing up for the WNBA Draft Lottery, where they have a chance to secure the top overall selection in the 2025 WNBA Draft, likely to include UConn women’s basketball standout Paige Bueckers.

As for the current roster, the Wings hold promising potential with several young players showing intriguing prospects. Jacy Sheldon, the fifth overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, had notable performances during the season. Teaira McCowan also played a significant role for the Wings, while Maddy Siegrist showed flashes of talent despite battling injuries in 2024.

Will the Dallas Wings emerge as a strong postseason contender again in 2025? That will hinge on the offseason’s outcomes, but the addition of a seasoned coach like Curt Miller is certainly a step in the right direction. Securing the No. 1 overall pick and potentially adding another star player would further enhance their prospects.
