UConn’s head coach Dan Hurley has openly rejected the notion that his potential shift to the Los Angeles Lakers was a calculated move to bolster his standing at UConn. He verified that he communicated via text message with LeBron James during this period.
“The idea that my consideration of the Lakers job was merely a tactic for more influence at UConn is utterly absurd,” Hurley affirmed during an interview on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz. “I don’t require any manipulation. My consistent success here speaks volumes with back-to-back national championships. It was not about influence in any way.
“My agreement with UConn has been prepared for some weeks now. The financial aspect has been resolved for a considerable period. There are matters such as name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights, the compensation for my team, and other aspects that I wish to discuss. But to suggest that I orchestrated this to enhance my deal at UConn is baseless and uncreative,” Hurley elaborated.
