UConn’s women’s basketball team secured a 73-60 victory over Ole Miss on Wednesday. While Paige Bueckers captured much of the spotlight with her impressive 29-point performance, Azzi Fudd, recently back from injury, contributed significantly with 18 points, four rebounds, and an assist. Following the game, UConn women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma spoke about Fudd’s strong performance, as reported by UConn on SNY.
“We knew at some point she would start feeling comfortable,” Auriemma remarked regarding Fudd. “It just takes a little while. I was pleasantly surprised by her level of comfort and aggressiveness. Given the hard work she’s put in and the time she has dedicated, this is probably the best physical condition she’s been in since her junior year of high school. I was just thrilled to see her doing what brings her joy.”
“She made the plays that Azzi Fudd makes. Sure, people know she’s an outstanding shooter, but I don’t think they fully appreciate what a fantastic basketball player she is and the range of skills she possesses.”
Fudd’s teammate, Paige Bueckers, expressed her excitement about having Fudd back on the court.
“Honestly, it feels a bit surreal because we’ve wanted this for so long, and now it’s finally happening,” Bueckers shared about reuniting with Fudd, via UConn on SNY. “I think this is the first game where it felt real… She played a lot more minutes and was back to her aggressive style. Even in the previous games, we both hadn’t been at our best, but we’re moving in the right direction.”
“We don’t want to take this for granted… We want to cherish every moment we get to play together.”
Together, Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers have the potential to become one of the premier duos in women’s college basketball. With a current record of 6-0, the future looks exceptionally promising for the UConn women’s basketball team.
