Following a difficult season that saw the Los Angeles Lakers exit the playoffs in the first round, the team made a decisive move by terminating head coach Darvin Ham. They subsequently appointed former NBA player JJ Redick as their new head coach, despite his lack of coaching experience.
With Redick taking the reins, the Lakers aim to reclaim their championship status. He has already decided on the starting lineup for the upcoming season, maintaining a group that experienced relative success last year. In an interview on ESPN’s “The Lowe Post” podcast, Redick revealed the Lakers’ intended starting lineup.
“This season’s starting lineup would be the starting five that went 23-10 last year,” Redick stated.
For the upcoming season, the Lakers’ starting five will comprise D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis. Through this lineup, Redick aspires to steer the Lakers back toward success and make a legitimate bid for the NBA championship.
JJ Redick Details Offensive Strategy for the Lakers’ Upcoming Season
The Los Angeles Lakers captured attention during this year’s NBA Draft by selecting Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, yet they have not made significant offseason changes. Retaining most of last season’s roster, new head coach JJ Redick is prepared to guide the team into the new season.
In his conversation with ESPN, the former NBA standout discussed his plans for the Lakers’ offensive strategy. The new coach aims to identify opportunities to create advantages.
“I think in terms of what the offense looks like, there will be a decent amount of movement. The shot profile will hopefully improve. You know, we’ve talked about ways to create more paint touches. We’ve talked about ways to shoot more threes. We’ve talked about some of the leeway that you have to give certain players with their mid-range shots, whether that’s in the post or isolation,” Redick remarked.
“Outside of that, there hasn’t been a lot of margin creation, so we’re going to try to create some margins. One of which is, we’re really going to emphasize offensive rebounding and corner crashes,” he added.
With a clear strategy in mind, Redick is committed to refining the Lakers’ gameplay. The season will commence with a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
