DiJonai Carrington, who signed with the Dallas Wings during the WNBA offseason, recently appeared on Angel Reese’s Unapologetically Angel podcast. Carrington touched on various topics, including her exit from the Connecticut Sun and her transition to the Wings.
“Not really,” Carrington responded when asked if leaving the Sun was a difficult decision. “Yeah, a little bit… My teammates departed (several Sun players moved on during the offseason)… No, it wasn’t that hard. The part that was tough was, of course you love the fans and you’re comfortable there. I just knew what to expect. But it was time (to leave).”
Carrington found herself in restricted free agency and explained how she made her way to Dallas with the Wings.
“At the end of the day, it wasn’t entirely my decision because I was a restricted free agent,” Carrington shared with Reese. “I could inform Connecticut, ‘hey, I want to go to this team or that team.’ And that’s essentially what occurred. I presented them with two options. Whichever team offered the best deal to Connecticut is what they accepted.
“I’m glad I’m in Dallas, but it was like, I gave them two teams.”
Reese then expressed her fondness for Dallas, even admitting that she “wants to live there.”
Reese, of course, plays for the Chicago Sky. She had a remarkable rookie season in 2024 and is eager to build upon that success in 2025.
Carrington, on her part, aims to make a notable contribution to the Wings. The 27-year-old was honored with the 2024 WNBA Most Improved Player of the Year Award following a successful season, averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
The Wings fell short of the postseason in 2024, but they are looking to rebound in 2025. Despite trading Satou Sabally to the Phoenix Mercury, the Wings have bolstered their roster with several impactful additions this offseason.
It’s possible DiJonai Carrington could be a key factor in helping the Dallas Wings secure a playoff spot in the 2025 season.
