Caitlin Clark Gets MLB Game Call Invitation Following Viral Video Sensation

Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark may have discovered a potential career path to pursue after her days on the court come to an end.

A TikTok video featuring Clark announcing a baseball game, recorded by her teammate Lexie Hull, caught her attention. Upon seeing the clip, Clark tagged the Philadelphia Phillies and humorously inquired about a job opportunity. This lighthearted interaction, however, piqued the interest of Phillies broadcaster Tom McCarthy.

Clark discussed the experience in a playful conversation with Matthew Byrne of ClutchPoints. Following the viral incident, McCarthy responded by posting his own TikTok, commending Clark’s impressive commentary skills and presenting her with a special invitation.

“Hey Caitlin, what’s going on, Tom McCarthy, TV voice of the Philadelphia Phillies,” McCarthy remarked on TikTok (H/T playoff correlation on X). “Great job the other day with that description, got to the hole, threw it comfortably over to first. You have a future. And by the way, any downtime you have, you’re up in the booth.”

Could Caitlin Clark eventually find herself in an MLB booth?

It would be fascinating to see if Clark takes a seat in the Phillies booth, especially considering her upbringing as a Chicago Cubs fan. Nonetheless, McCarthy has a strong reputation for recognizing broadcasting talent. His career spans back to 1994, and he has served as the voice of the Phillies in two different stints. His first period was from 2001 to 2005 as the radio play-by-play announcer, and he returned to the role in 2008, now as the television voice.

However, fitting Clark into the broadcasting schedule could pose a challenge due to overlapping timelines. The WNBA and MLB seasons both commence and conclude around similar points in the calendar year. The MLB schedule kicks off in late March or early April, while the WNBA season usually begins in late April or early May. Given the ongoing growth of the WNBA, there is potential for the season to start sooner.

Finding a compatible schedule would be the primary obstacle for having Clark in the booth. If the timing aligns, it would be exciting to see the Fever guard swap her basketball for a headset.

At present, her schedule is quite packed. Clark is gearing up to compete against the Connecticut Sun in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs, while the Phillies are also contending for a playoff berth. They currently lead the National League East but face strong competition from the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves.
