Recognized widely in the field of NBA reporting for breaking news ahead of others, Shams Charania is often only matched by Adrian Wojnarowski in this regard. Through his steadfast dedication to being the first to report NBA scoops, Shams, much like Woj, holds one of the highest records for “screen time”, measuring the hours spent on a phone each day.

While many individuals may feel bashful about their extensive screen time usage, Shams proudly embraces it as a distinguishing feature of his profession.

During the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Shams, typically known for interviewing others, found himself in a rare scenario of being the interviewee, providing insight into his extensive phone usage.

On July 1, the initial day of free agency, Shams accumulated an impressive 21 hours and 34 minutes of screen time, showcasing his minimal sleep and continuous reliance on a charger.

Given the substantial demand for NBA news during free agency, a period brimming with player signings and team updates, Shams’ extensive screen time is justifiable. He revealed that on an average day, he dedicates over 17 hours to his phone.

Shams embarked on his journalism journey at the age of 17 by covering the Chicago Bulls for the Chicago Tribune. Subsequently, he contributed to RealGM in 2012, catching the attention of Wojnarowski who aided him in securing a position at Yahoo. From 2015 to 2018, Shams served as the national NBA Insider for Yahoo Sports.

At present, as a 30-year-old senior lead NBA Insider for The Athletic, an NBA analyst for Stadium, and co-host of the FanDuel TV show Run It Back, Shams manages multiple roles on a daily basis.

His diligence is greatly appreciated by fans who depend on him for current NBA news, ranging from trade and free agency information to league rumors. Shams frequently keeps fans more informed via phone alerts than even their partners.
