Angel Reese has disclosed that an NBA player assisted her financially to cover a fine she incurred in June. Currently a member of the Chicago Sky, Reese was ejected from a game against the New York Liberty, the eventual champions, due to a fifth foul. While expressing her frustration over a referee’s decision, she was penalized with two technical fouls, leading to her ejection and a fine.
In a podcast episode of “Unapologetically Angel” featuring Lonzo Ball and his younger brother LiAngelo, the trio discussed the financial support he provided for her fine.
“Ref that threw out @Reese10Angel is weak btw… You know who you are (Keep ya money Angel I got you),” Lonzo tweeted at the time, to which Reese replied, “Appreciate you gang!”
During the podcast, Reese remarked, “So you gave me $2,000,” around the 36-minute mark. “Do you know how much my fine actually was? It was only $200.”
Ball responded, “I actually hit up Coach Weatherspoon to make sure you got that. That’s how you know I trusted her, though. I gave her some bread to give to you.”
“I did get it, I appreciate you,” Reese said. “She gave me in cash. I appreciate that.”
Lonzo commented on the foul, calling it a “terrible tech” and noted that he witnessed the incident firsthand, as this was his first experience attending a WNBA game. Before moving on, he inquired whether Reese had appealed the call.
“Yeah, but I didn’t get my money back. I don’t know how,” Reese replied.
Angel Reese Discusses Her Rivalry with Caitlin Clark
Reese’s rivalry with Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever has transformed women’s basketball, drawing unprecedented attention to the sport. While their competitive spirits may generate headlines, Reese offers a genuine view on their dynamic.
“I think it’s just competition, it’s been competition since college,” Reese articulated in an interview with Complex’s Speedy Norman. “Being able to play against Caitlin, I’ve competed against her since probably the eighth or ninth grade. We were both incredibly competitive in AAU. I went to Maryland and she went to Iowa, so we faced off there and finally in the national championship. People don’t recognize the legacy we have created by competing against each other for such a long time.”
Despite the rivalry sparking discussions that may be perceived as negative, the Chicago Sky rookie emphasizes its positive impact on women’s basketball.
“Obviously social media is going to put two women against each other,” Reese stated. “I think it has negative elements but also positive ones. It shines a light on women’s basketball, so I’m fine with being the focal point of the attention, knowing at the end of the day I’m promoting and advancing the sport.”
