The Los Angeles Sparks entered the 2025 WNBA Draft lottery with the highest odds of obtaining the No. 1 overall pick. However, the Dallas Wings unexpectedly took the coveted top selection, leaving the Sparks with the No. 2 pick once again in the draft. While the team expressed some disappointment, veteran forward Azurá Stevens shared a positive message for supporters on social media.
“Nah but all jokes aside, we are still gonna get the best pick at number 2,” Stevens wrote online. “Look at last szn.” Her post included a couple of starry-eyed emojis.
The last season’s pick Stevens was referencing was the Sparks selecting Cameron Brink with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Although Brink was limited to just 15 games last year due to a season-ending ACL injury, she demonstrated potential as a formidable defensive force in the paint.
In the previous year’s draft lottery, the Sparks employed a bit of draft luck to ascend the rankings. The Phoenix Mercury held the best odds for the No. 2 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, but the Sparks managed to surpass them during the lottery process.
Sparks’ early prospects with No. 2 WNBA Draft pick
Unless any unexpected trades occur, the Sparks will be choosing at No. 2 in the 2025 WNBA Draft. With UConn point guard Paige Bueckers anticipated to be off the board as the projected No. 1 pick, several potential star players still remain for the Sparks to consider.
A point guard is a top priority for the Sparks, and Notre Dame’s Olivia Miles could still be available at No. 2. However, Miles has two additional seasons of college eligibility, making her presence uncertain.

The Sparks might choose to bolster their frontcourt by selecting USC forward Kiki Iriafen. With most mock drafts projecting Bueckers as the top pick, Iriafen is widely regarded as the No. 2 pick. Some even argue Iriafen should be the top selection.
Looking ahead, the Sparks will continue their search for a head coach in preparation for the 2025 WNBA season. They will also need to determine which players to protect in the upcoming expansion draft scheduled for December.
